SOMETHING NEW – Parody of Soul Bossa Nova

posted in: NEWEST, Parody, Social Commentary | 6

There’s a lot of sludge and drudge in the news these days, and there has been for quite a while and it appears there will be for quite a while more. So for a change let’s focus on something positive that could actually happen if we all start thinking in those terms. It’s our money, how do we want to spend it? Do we want to continue feeding it into endless and pointless wars, tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and welfare for mega-corporations, or do we want to use those resources to invest in a clean environment, a future for our children and a healthier and happier community?

LYRICS to SOMETHING NEW

green new deal parody projectYou’ve never seen the likes of this one, baby.
It’s called the Green New Deal.

Nothing like you will read online, darlin’,
So let me do the reveal.

It’s Zero emissions by 2030.
The Green New Deal is comin’ to you.

Job guarantees,
you know it’s true,
with fairer wages’,
those are for you.
An education,
without the debt.
Universal healthcare,
we’ll get there yet.
Instead of buying war and funding corporations,
We’re kicking’ out the old school,
this’ll be our something new.
This’ll be our something new.

It ain’t a partisan issue,
80 percent agree.
Congress needs a little “Hey Baby.”
That is up to you and me.
Clean up the environment, clean up the elections.
It’s the future, I’m talkin’ to you.

You know you want it, you know it’s true.
Deterioration
ain’t good for you.
The greenhouse gases have got to go.
Ain’t got the time now
to take it slow.
You can see the warnings
everywhere around you.
We’re kicking’ out the old school,
this’ll be our something new.
This’ll be our something new.

It’s social justice we’re after,
not insulating opulence.
That’s gone on way too long, baby.
We must change all that at once.

You’re the greatest resource we’ve got it is true.
You’re the future, I’m talkin’ to you.

You know you want it, you know it’s true.
The Green New Deal
is moving you.
We don’t want war
or corporate welfare.
We’ve got solutions.
Let’s get ‘em in there.
Got to implement this, got to push it through.
That’s the Green New Deal and it’s what we’re gonna do.
Kicking out the old school,
This’ll be our something new.
This’ll be our something new.
This’ll be our something new.

Hi Peter, I have to admit I’ve never thought of that prior to you mentioning it. Thanks for the compliments!

Have you ever thought of playing a parody that references Star Trek? The ideas you espouse, “Something New” especially, are right out of Gene Roddenberry’s canon. Just a thought. Continue on with your brilliant artistry and commentary. Thank you. ~ Peter Ferber
