President Donald Trump officially named the 2026 conflict with Iran “Operation Epic Fury.” He personally selected the name after rejecting around 20 other options, stating in a rally that he found the initial choices boring before landing on Epic Fury.
Other operation names and labels associated with the administration include:
Operation Midnight Hammer: The name used by Trump for a specific air assault and strike that targeted Iran’s nuclear potential.
Operation Sledgehammer: The name considered by the Pentagon to continue the campaign if the spring ceasefire collapsed and major combat operations were restarted.
“Strait of Trump”: A label Trump used during speeches to refer to the vital oil-shipping route, the Strait of Hormuz.
“Excursion” or “Stay”: Terminology Trump occasionally used in speeches or conferences to describe the conflict without referring to it directly as a war, thus avoiding Congressional authorization issues. (New York Times via Wikipedia)
